MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY – The 3rd Annual Kiwanis/Fraternal Order of Police Shop N’ Rock is only a month away. This highly anticipated event is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the Budd Lake Fire House on Route 46 West.

There are still opportunities for vendors, crafters, child related programs and local businesses to reserve space for this high traffic, popular event. Location and space allocations are flexible. To generate traffic, the family orientated event includes music, food vendors, a “kids play zone” and much more.

This event supports numerous local activities such as

• The acquisition of life-saving equipment for the Mt. Olive Police Department, Fire & First Aid and the Mount Olive Public Schools


• Support’s the Mount Olive High School Key Club, a Kiwanis sponsored, student led service organization


• Scholarships for high school students with demonstrated leadership in service to the community’s children and senior citizens


• Scholarships for students pursuing criminal justice degrees

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY - The Mount Olive Board of Education has three open spots to fill in the April election.

Mount Olive New Jersey Severe Weather Alert

MOUNT OLIVE, NEW JERSEY - What a day. Approximately 13,000 township residents are without power tonight as Mount Olive and much of the state was soggy, slushy, and yes... snowy when a Nor'easter blew through the garden state.

Mount Olive Township Police report that they handled over 1,000 calls for weather related issues. The Mount Olive Twp Police Dispatch Center received 282 of those calls via 911.

Due to the heavy call volume regular patrols were supplemented by officers from the police department’s Detective Bureau, Communication Division and the Support Services Division. The combined staff responded to over 17 Disabled Motor vehicles, 8 fires, 30 weather related property damage calls, and 20 traffic accidents.

54 Garfield school district students became stranded at the Pax Amicus Castle Theater when their bus became stuck in the snow. The Budd Lake Fire Department responded to assist with the incident and was able to transport all parties to the Budd Lake Fire Department for temporary shelter.

"Our officers handled this extended weather event with incredible patience and professionalism." said Chief Mark Spitzer, Mount Olive Township Police. "The Township and County Road departments worked throughout the storm and will be staying through the night. We were eventually able to put together a fleet of four wheel drive vehicles by utilizing health department, fire marshal, and engineering SUV’s."

Mount Olive School Board Election day 2008

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY - School Board Election Day is Tuesday, April 15th, 2008. Mount Olive residents will be heading to the polls to elect school board candidates for board of education positions. Voter's will also weigh in on the ongoing debate over the proposed Township of Mount Olive School District budget.

There are three open positions on the Board of Education and three candidates. Mount Olive school board candidates include Robert Mania, Daniel Amianda, and Mark Werner.

The Board of Education(BOE) acts by formally adopting District Policies and Regulations, approving contracts for services, adopting an annual budget, and appointing and supervising the Superintendent of Schools. Each open position holds a full term of 3 years.

All Mount Olive Township voters will be asked to vote on two public questions that will appear on the April 15th school election ballot.

Public Question No. 1 - Do you approve/disapprove the proposed
2008-2009 budget in the amount of $53,189,857 for the general fund which holds and increase of the current tax levy by 1.89%.

Public Question No. 2 - Do you approve/disapprove an additional permanent increase of the general fund in the amount of $482,254 for expenditures above and beyond the necessary Core Curriculum Content Standards adopted by the State Board of Education.

Tinc Road School PTO General Meeting

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY - The Tinc Road Elementary School parent/teacher organization (PTO) will be holding their monthly general meeting tomorrow April 8th, 2008 at 7:00pm.

Dr. Rosalie Lamonte, Ph.D. the Superintendent of Mount Olive Township Schools will be attending as a guest speaker to discuss the 2008-2009 Mount Olive Board of Education (BOE) Budget.

MOUNT OLIVE, NEW JERSEY - Superintendent Dr. Rosalie Lamonte announced she will step down from her position at the Mount Olive School District following the fall semester of the 2007-2008 school year.

Lamonte has been at her position with Mount Olive since 2003, and has been involved in education for 35 years working for various school districts across New Jersey including Hanover, Berkley Heights, and Montville.

The Mount Olive Board of Education (BOE) will meet for a special session on Thursday, March 6th at 7:00 pm at the Mount Olive Middle School. The board is expected to vote on whether to accept Lamonte's resignation.

Also on the agenda, the Mount Olive BOE will finalize and adopt the 2008-2009 School District Budget. Mount Olive residents are encouraged to attend to ask questions and voice concerns.

Where does my property tax go?
The Township collects the amount of tax dollars that the three units of local government (local schools, municipal government, and county government) determine is necessary to operate.

How are Property Taxes Calculated?
A municipalities general tax rate is calculated by dividing the total dollar amount needed to meet local budget expenses by the total assessed value of all its taxable property.

An individual's property taxes are then calculated by multiplying the general tax rate by the assessed value of the individual's particular property.

The State of New Jersey does not participate in drafting of local budgets, nor does it receive any of the property taxes collected.

First Snow of the Season

MOUNT OLIVE, NEW JERSEY - The first snow of the season arrived dumping 6-12 inches on parts of Mount Olive Township today.

Snow Removal trucks were out in abundance helping to clear the wet accumulation. That didn't seem to help traffic much this morning. There were delays on Route 206, 46, and 10 due to ditched drivers and rubber-neckers. We also heard reports of slow moving traffic on portions of Interstates 80 and 78 due to minor fender-benders.

Some Morris County Schools made the call for a delayed opening or cancellation this morning. Mount Olive Township Schools were all open, with a 2hr delay and canceled after school activities.

The Mount Olive Township Board of Education begins this winter season with the Honeywell Instant Alert System.
